“Jesus loves you more than you will know…” So goes the song by the duo Simon and Garfunkel, the bestselling songsters, who wrote some of the most popular songs of the 1960s and 1970s. In this reference, we are citing the recent scandal clouding the professional life of the Northern Ireland Prime Minister, Mr. Robinson. His wife, Mrs. Iris Robinson, enjoyed a sultry affair with a 19 year-old lad named Kirk McCambley. Mrs. Robinson is 60 years-old. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, in praising older women, stated, “They don’t tell, they don’t swell, and they’re grateful as hell.” For clarification: Mr. Robinson had no idea his wife was having an affair, so he claims, and that’s probably true. The deceived is usually the last to know, in these matters. What’s the money connection? Through her connections, Mrs. Robinson enabled Kirk to obtain a license and funds to open a cafe in Belfast, to the tune of $80,000. Mrs. Robinson, currently under psychiatric care (curious how so many women, once their deception is revealed, must repair to the funny farm) is also a target of the UK’s gay community.

The writer Christopher Hitchens, author of God is Not Great, considers the ideas of women and humor in a recent Vanity Fair piece. Entertaining and insightful as always, Mr. Hitchens will, hopefully, make you laugh out loud or send you madly typing a hate letter to him after you read it. Perhaps both.

How creepy can a personal ad photo get? Judging by this woman’s handiwork with a Sharpie, I’d say she wins this months contest. Disturbing and that hand with the white-fingernail polish rates high on the creepy scale. Amazing that she would even consider posting this picture with a personal ad and most likely is clueless as to the impression it gives about her.

In an interview on national television, Mr. Reid Gray, the husband of self-kidnapping extortioner extraordinaire Mrs. Quinn Gray, stated that he’s supporting her 100% and in fact, is even paying for her legal representation. Mr. Gray claims his wife’s behavior is due to bipolar depression. Hmmmm….

Consider the following documented exchange between Mrs. Gray and her partner in crime, Mr. Osmanovic:

Quinn Gray: “One-hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money.”
Osmanovic: “I know.”

Quinn Gray: “Fifty-thousand dollars is a lot of money, really, now that I’m looking at it the way that what $50,000 is going to mean to me in the future.”
Osmanovic: “I know.”
Quinn Gray: “Either that or you just blow his (Reid’s) head off.”
Osmanovic: “Say what?”
Quinn Gray: “I said either that or you just blow his head off.”

Does Mrs. Quinn sound bipolar in this secret exchange with her lover? While Mrs. Quinn was being escorted to jail by Sheriff deputies, a reporter asked her, “Did you need the money?” (referring to the $50,000 ransom). Mrs. Quinn replied, “If I needed $50,000, I’d just taken it out of the checking account.”

Mr. Reid Gray: if your wife openly claims she didn’t need the money (paid as ransom), and she suggests to her lover that blowing your head off is an option, maybe, just maybe she was conspiring to murder you. Did that possibility cross your mind?

My concern at this point is for Mr. Gray. He’s encountered that dangerous No Man’s Land where a woman’s psyche, a maze of inventions, conspires to deny, deny, deny and to reap ill-gotten rewards.

We’ll follow this story as it develops.

This story, if it wasn’t true, could be a plot jacked from a James M. Cain novel. Who was James M. Cain? He was a writer who penned two of the most famous “hardboiled” novels of the 1930s: The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity. The lattter title, Double Indemnity, tells the tale of a housewife who seduces an insurance salesman and together they scheme the murder of her dull husband. Double Indemnity was also turned into a successful film directed by the legendary Billy Wilder and starring uber-bitch Barbara Stanwyck and laconic Fred McMurray. Highly recommended.

Today, we have a similar plot: pretty housewife Quinn Gray claims she was kidnapped, held captive by an automechanic and that the lug assaulted her for 4 days, during which time he forced her to write a letter for ransom to her husband. The mechanic, Mr. Osmanovic, must give a truly satisfying lube job. Well, the cops smell this like it’s fish four days old: they ain’t buying it.

St. John’s County, Florida, Sheriff David Shoar says Gray and her lover, Jasmin Osmanovic (Jasmin???) like so many criminals did something stupid: they managed to screw and plot while a nearby tape recorder documented their machinations. What makes this case even more bizarre is that the ever-faithful husband, Reid Gray, is standing by his wife. He’s paying for her legal defense as she and Osmanovic brace for the legal charges, which include extortion.

In the news today is a story about TV writer-producer Nell Scovell who claims she experienced a “hostile work environment” when she worked for David Letterman. To her credit, Miss Scovell shortly moved on from what she originally thought was a “dream job.” My question: what about the women who stayed? What motivated them to work day-in and day-out with Mr. Letterman and his males staff? Hmmmm…. Read more here.
